  • Overview

    UN Foundation’s Shot@Life grassroots advocacy campaign champions vaccines as the most proven, cost-effective intervention to save and improve the lives of children in developing countries and highlights UN leadership in vaccines.
     
    The Shot@Life Communications Associate will work with the campaign’s Communications Officer to develop, implement, and support the communications, digital, and marketing needs of the campaign. He/She will report directly to the Shot@Life campaign’s Communications Officer.

    Responsibilities

    Communications strategy and brand management:

    • Work with the Shot@Life Communications Officer and campaign team members to develop and implement communications strategies across email, web, multimedia, fundraising, and social media platforms.
    • Maintain branding and messaging consistency online and offline.
    • Support campaign collateral creation, distribution, and organization, including but not limited to beneficiary stories, videos (concepts and scripting), photos, blogs, fact sheets, social media posts.
    • Develop a strong sense of Shot@Life brand and key messages.

    Writing and content creation:

    • Responsible for writing and editing digital content while maintaining an engaging social media presence.  
    • Assist in crafting fundraising communications for the campaign in coordination with the Shot@Life’s communications priorities and standards.
    • Collaborate with the grassroots advocacy team to develop, write, and copy edit advocacy resources, including toolkits, handbooks and training webinars, as well as provide support for education programs.
    • Web maintenance and email marketing support:
    • Assist with Shot@Life website maintenance. Create web pages for content such as blog posts, advocate resources, and events.
    • Work with Communications Officer to conceptualize display and functionality of assets on the website.
    • Assist with email marketing execution. Responsibilities may include drafting and coding emails, creating targeted distribution groups, and reporting on metrics.

    Social media and digital communications:

    • Responsible for sourcing, writing, and creating original content for use on social media. Gather relevant content to write accurate and engaging tweets, Facebook posts, and Instagram posts, and create graphics where applicable.
    • Exhibit discernment when identifying partner and external materials for redistribution on Shot@Life channels.
    • Work with Communications Officer to track and report on digital engagement metrics. Build monthly reports on social media, email, and web analytics to draw conclusions on key findings and conceptualize data-driven strategies to boost engagement.
    • Proactively engage online supporters, influencers and bloggers.
    • Keep up-to-date on digital media and web industry standards and trends.
    • Proactively conduct grassroots outreach utilizing the campaign’s online platforms (blogs, community networking sites, listservs).

    Media relations and press outreach:

    • Use Google alerts to track key moments and media opportunities to promote Shot@Life activities. Work with Communications Officer to develop pitching strategies around key national moments and notable chapter activities, maintain relationships with reporters, draft press releases and media advisories, assist in the development Shot@Life press kits and toolkits.
    • Support press outreach around key moments. Responsibilities include building media lists, pitching key stories, coordinating with the press.
    • Provide communications support for Shot@Life events. Assist with speaker outreach, agenda development, photographer/videographer coordination, and attendee materials.

    Collaboration:

    • Work with the Shot@Life and the Public Affairs teams to identify, explore, and implement creative digital strategies.
    • Project manage Shot@Life’s digital initiatives by working closely with third party vendors.
    • Work with UN Foundation’s Public Affairs and Global Health teams to ensure content sharing and synergy across UN Foundation’s digital platforms.
    • Perform and oversee communications duties as required during any absence of staff.
    • Other projects and duties as assigned.

    Selection Criteria

    • Minimum 2-3 years of communications experience.
    • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Public Relations, International Relations, Journalism or related field.
    • Highly organized with an ability to prioritize and balance long- and short-term projects. Excellent attention to detail, sense of urgency, and strict adherence to deadlines.
    • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, rapidly-changing environment.
    • Excellent writing and copy-editing ability. Familiarity with AP Style guidelines.
    • Demonstrated experience in crafting campaign messages and content.
    • Experience writing press releases, creating social media kits, and media lists and kits.
    • Experience drafting audience-specific email messaging for donor outreach and volunteer recruitment.
    • Ability to work independently to identify, explore, and implement creative online and social media strategies and make recommendations for content and online communications tools.
    • Strong skills working in teams and across many types of organizations — problem solver; relationship-builder; and strong inter-personal skills.
    • Creative and proactive thinker.
    • Proficiency in CRM & CMS —Every Action, WordPress, and Salesforce experience highly preferable.
    • Experience maintaining and managing organizational social networking accounts (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Google +, etc.) including monitoring and analytics. Experience with Hootsuite a plus.
    • Familiarity with HTML and CSS.
    • Knowledge and prior use of Photoshop, Premiere, Illustrator, and Microsoft Office.
    • Multi-cultural experience, general knowledge of global issues and the United Nations system, particularly global health is a plus.
    • Ability to meet regular attendance tardiness policy.
